Tom and Nancy Osborne founded the TeamMates Mentoring Program in 1991 in an effort to provide support and encouragement to school-aged youth. The goal of the program is to see youth graduate from high school and pursue post-secondary education. To reach this goal, youth meet one hour per week with a caring adult who serves as a mentor. Mentors give youth a sense of hope, purpose and mission.
“Having a mentor is like having a best friend. The TeamMatees Mentoing Program has helped me study more, get better grades, and think about what I want to do with my life down the road.” – TeamMates Mentee
All youth can benefit from a mentoring relationship. Whether in a formal relationship such as a neighbor or relative, we believe everyone needs a positive role model to provide guidance and wisdom.
Why should I volunteer?
Because young people want to spend time with positive, successful adult role models. Because young people want guidance in setting and achieving goals. Beacuase a TeamMates mentoring relationship works two ways. You have theopportunity to gain insight from young people, and helping them succeed is a great source of satisfaction.
